Mail won’t read a message for whatever reason:

Go into ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/…/Messages and get the .emlx file you need.

Copy the base64 encoded part out into a file using textmate or whatever.

Use openssl to decode it (in this case result is a pdf file):

openssl base64 -d -in the_encoded_part -out file.pdf
